I MUST SEE THIS

Tony Head. Tony FUCKING Head.
Ogre. Yes, THAT Ogre.

"Repo: The Genetic Musical"

Listening to the music in the trailer, I wonder if Ogre had a hand in the musical direction? There seem to be some late Puppy-ish influences there, maybe...

Weekend, today, and plans for the 4th

Friday night [info]ruisseau, [info]kaymyth and I went to see Wall-E at the Boulevard Drive-In. We ran into [info]diermuid, [info]saffronhare, and assorted children at the drive-in and ended up getting a good spot up front.

The movie was good, except for the bit where it started to pour down rain on us. Not so much fun at the drive-in when you're sitting outside in the rain. Fun time, nonetheless.

Saturday I was going to go up to Winnwood and skate, but instead [info]ruisseau and I hung out that morning. We went up around Cliff Drive and the Kansas City Museum (didn't go in, though) and just walked around. We then drove down to the P&L district for lunch, and ended up eating at a place called Suzy's Deli. A nice Asian woman was behind the counter. Another Asian woman was sitting at the table watching some Asian soap opera. I say "Asian" here because I honestly have no idea what sort of Asians the women were or the soap opera was. I had a rueben. It was decent, but a bit cold in the middle. Afterward was [info]rampantfox's cookout. I played bocce for the first time. :) It's like lawn darts without the plastic ring. Alternatively, lawn darts are like bocce with a plastic ring. The cookout was fun, but I was a party pooper and asked [info]kaymyth to take [info]ruisseau and I home shortly after midnight.

I ended up going skating Sunday instead, but rather than going to Winnwood (and their nice hardwood floor) I went to Skate City down in OP. This was so that [info]ruisseau and I could be closer to Gaia, as we had cookie duty that Sunday, and I had a meeting for my EIR final ritual.

Maybe I'm just biased by a good experience at Winnwood, but I think they have better rental skates, definitely better video games, and a better floor. Skate City has this polyurethane plastic floor like you'd find in a high school gym. Much more slippery than the hardwood floor at Winnwood. Combine this with the rental skates whose wheels didn't all spin at the same rate and the mass of shaky tweens creating obstacles to my already-shaky skating and it leads to me having fallen down a lot more. I rolled with the falls as much as I could, but I still ended up scraping my knee and hurting my wrist.

After the skating was my ritual meeting, at which we determined our intention to be a "blessing of the vehicles", similar to the "blessing of the fleet" performed in maritime towns, and [info]featherynscale's Kabbalah class. She used duct tape to mark out the pillars, sephira, and the paths between the sephira, which was cool, and then on the altars for each of the sephiroth she had the appropriate bit of Alan Moore's Promethea open. Hooray for ceremonialist comic book writers! :)

Today I ordered my first pair of quad skates off of Amazon. They're made by Chicago Skate Company, not Roller Derby (based in my hometown), but they had better reviews than the RD. One of these days, though, I want to get a pair of these, just for the look of the thing. :) What can I say? I love combat boots.

I also got a set of elbow pads, knee pads, and wrist guards off Craigslist for $20. They're nice, too - Pro-Tec (supposed to be the shit) pads and Rollerblade wrist guards. There was also a pitchfork out on the curb of the house I bought the pads from, in a pile of things that looked like garage-sale remainders. I thought about asking the folks what they wanted for it, but figured I couldn't get it home on Cyclone. :)

Now, finally, 4th of July. [info]ruisseau and I are going back to my hometown for the weekend of the 4th. Maybe we can meet up with some folks along the way?

A most excellent couple of hours

On a whim, I decided to see Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure at the Screenland tonight. I imbibed a concoction called the (let me see if I can get this right) Ziggy-Zig Pig, which was Stoli Blueberry and pink lemonade whilst watching the film in a very comfy recliner, and had a nice conversation about old-school industrial with a pretty girl who had a Skinny Puppy tattoo on her calf. :) I told her to e-mail me and I'd hook her up with some good old stuff - I'm thinking maybe some stuff off of Black Box (the Wax Trax! box set), and maybe some á;GRUMH. Maybe we can even trade mix CDs, which would be pretty cool, I think. :)

And now I'm home, and probably going to play some more Lego Star Wars II while I wait for [info]hlynna to get home. Tomorrow we're going to the zoo!

Movie: Man of the Year

October 13th, 2006 (10:36 pm)

So the wife and I just got finished seeing Man of the Year. I will say first off that it wasn't as good as the previews. That said, it was a decent movie, at least as political satire. There was an intrigue/thriller angle to the film as well, which, while necessary, I think, to the film, could have been handled better. There was also a little bit of a romance angle, but that was very subtle, which I liked.

Ultimately, this movie is worth seeing in the second-run theatres. It'snot really worth the full price. Unless you're a big Robin Williams fan, wait until it comes to the second-run theatres.
