Of particular interest is the Mandalorian woman in full armour.

Bureaucracy Follies

So here in Missouri, your vehicle must pass a safety inspection before it can be registered. And here in KC, the list of places that are approved inspection stations varies from week to week, so there's no definitive list online anywhere. And what's worse: many of the places that do inspections only inspect cars. They don't inspect motorcycles.

I'm in a training course all week, and today we got out at noon. So I decided I'd go and get my license & registration taken care of - I've got to get it done within 30 days of moving here or I get penalized, so I need to do it soon, and today seemed like the perfect opportunity. I got my folks to send me my birth certificate (because an out-of-state DL is not good enough to establish legal residency in the US), I had a document from the tax office saying I didn't owe any back taxes to MO, and I'd got my insurance moved to MO, so I figured I was set.

First order of buisness was the inspection. I wanted to do both license and registration today, since they were both at the DMV. I spent something like two hours going around KCMO looking for a place to get Arcadia inspected, all to no avail. Every place I tried either didn't do inspections, didn't do motorcycle inspections, or couldn't get me in today. One place, Cafe Racer, was nice enough to call around to three or four different places, but all to no avail. As it was getting late, I decided to head to the DMV anyway, and at least get my license taken care of. Of course, that took another hour, but I am finally a licensed driver in the state of Missouri.

I know I owe y'all a con report from Archon, but it's going to have to wait a while longer.

Home from Archon

Had a very good time, got lots of things signed by Bill Corbett (Crow T. Robot) and Kevin Murphy (Tom Servo) from MST3K. Spent far too much money in the dealers' room, put some money in [info]filkertom's pocket, put some money in [info]lukeski's pocket, saw both men in concert (separately), won the Battletech session I played in (by 2 points - I took out a Rifleman, and the only other kills in the game were 55-tonners [kills were worth 1/2 the Mech's tonnage, rounded up]), met a couple very nice girls, and took a fair number of pictures which I will go through and post as I have time. :) Both [info]hlynna and I have bought pre-reg for next year, and I think Archon is going to be a regular event for us, and yay! I can go to cons!

Whee! We're going to Archon!

August 1st, 2007 (02:54 pm)

As I said in a comment to [info]filkertom, it's been 12 years since I first heard of Archon. Since then I've moved from the Midwest to the East Coast and back. But this weekend, [info]hlynna and I are going to Archon. We're going to see [info]filkertom in concert (my first time EVAR, [info]hlynna's first time in the better part of a decade). We're going to waste money in the dealer's room. I'm going to see if I can get the MST3K guys to sign our Shorts VHSs. I don't know what else. :)

I will not be surprised if I see anyone there. The old Sorento crowd were always pretty big on Archon, as I recall. :)
